 | Made up of veterans of WW II campaigns in Albania, Russia, and North Africa, an eight-man squad of Italy's elite Gli Arditi ("The Daring") paratrooper police pose with portable belt-feed machine guns strapped to their backs on pack frames. When deployed, the machine guns are dropped by separate parachutes, then mounted up as shown for transport into action. Photo dated August 25, 1949.
