ANTIAIRCRAFT ARTILLERY PATCHES OF WORLD WAR II
(from the Dave Kaufman Collection)

16th, 17th DET, and 18th Antiaircraft Battalions (Airborne)

Deployed in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations on June 22, 1944, men in these three battalions were not parachute qualified. Some members were assigned to the 10th Air Force, manning machine guns mounted into C-87s (the transport version of the B-24D Liberator bomber, aka the Liberator Express), which had been previously unarmed. More information on the 16th AA Bn is here; more on the 17th AA Bn (DET) (not to be confused with the 17th AA Bn) is here; and more on the 18th AA Bn is here.
