"Blood and Guts" The nickname given to General George S. Patton at Ft. Benning, Georgia in 1940. Patton had been telling the junior officers of the 2nd Armored Division that they would soon be up to their necks in blood and guts. Some of the soldiers, knowing Patton's reputation as a tough hombre, jokingly tried to figure out if it was his guts and their blood or his blood and their guts, and the nickname was born. Later, it became "Ole Blood n' Guts." |
