U. S. Rifle, .30-caliber, M1Standard
 |
The "Garand" rifle, designated as U. S. Rifle, cal. .30, M1, is a self-loading, semi-automatic shoulder weapon. Designed by John C. Garand of the Springfield Armory, the weapon is gas-operated, clip-fed, and air-cooled. Ammunition is loaded in clips of eight rounds, and normally carried in six-pocket bandoliers holding a total of 48 rounds. |
Submachine Gun, .45-caliber, M3Standard
 |
Known as a "machine pistol" in
Europe, this weapon has been nicknamed the "Grease Gun" owing to the appearance of the
barrel assembly. Ammunition is loaded in 30-round clips, and the cyclic rate of fire is 350450 rounds per minute. The M3 is portable and light and is a favorite of commandos and paratroopers. Its
low rate of fire, combined with its general design, results in a stable, accurate weapon because
of the low recoil and virtually noexistent "muzzle climb." |
