  • September 20, 1943 — went on furlough, 5 days plus traveling time, had a swell time, surprised Ma and saw the gang at work. Told Ma aboyut Jo and she was very interested. Felt bad about leaving home.
  • September 20, 1943 — back in Davis. Saw Jo quite a bit. Turned radar in and received instructions for APO preparations, got new clothes, etc.
  • December 7, 1943 — finally got APO #9130 and left Davis for Camp Kilmer, New Jersey, 2 years after Pearl Harbor. Kilmer is a nice place. Went to New York quite a bit and had fun.
  • December 14, 1943 — Pa's birthday, called home on the phone. Got shots and had some teeth fixed. Expect to leave for boat ride anytime.
