- June 13, 1944 moved to Romsey and received invasion money. Also, the best food money can buy. I feel like "the condemned man after a hearty meal."
- June 14, 1944 left for Southampton docks. "This is it," I says with a lump in my throat, which could be my heart.
- June 15-24, 1944 D+9, loaded equipment on the SS Dan Beard, a Liberty Ship that has seen better days. We are on our way. It has been a long time since I've had a good meal and it will be longer yet. We are in a harbor in France at Omaha Beach. A storm is brewing but we don't care. Pass the K-rations, Jack. 11 o'clock and Jerry is here. He has a fun time, but his bombs missed us by 100 feet. The air barrage is terrific. They got him. We can't get ashore, bad weather. Meanwhile, every night we are attacked. I feel like a duck on the water and someone is taking pot-shots at me.
- June 25, 1944 we finally get off. Spent the night on the beach. It's a mess.
