  • September 14, 1944 — moved from Vannes to Coulommiers, about 350 miles. Went to Paris, had a good time and got a little tight.
  • October 14, 1944 — Moved from Coulommiers to Reims. Set up in an old battlefield, Marne. Weather is getting colder.
  • November 17, 1944 — left Reims for new position close to Verdun and Metz and Etain.
  • November 18, 1944 — talk about mud, we got it everywhere. Our position is so bad we are knee-deep in mud all the time. We moved to a better location, not so much mud. Still it rains every day. Not much doing with the Luftwaffe,
  • Thanksgiving, 1944 — turkey and cranberry sauce with mud a la king! We ain't eatin' too bad. Hope are arctics come soon. Feet are wet constantly.
  • December 3, 1944 — Xmas packages coming in. Feels good to see that you are not forgotten. Weather is getting colder. Our arctics came.
  • December 24, 1944 — looks like we are going to have a white Xmas. Germans broke through in Belgium but they are being stopped by General Patton's 3rd Army. Caught our first Jerry plane for the first time since the beach. It was an He111. We shot it down.
