Omaha Beach Airstrip
A P-38 Lightning is parked on the edge of the airstrip constructed directly behind
Omaha Beach. The 225th was involved in the security defense of the strip during
late June. Note the breakwater (made of scuttled "blockships") of Mulberry A in the
bay, as well as several barrage balloons. General George S. Patton arrived in
France aboard a C-47 that landed here, a rather unceremonious way for him to
to reenter the war (photo courtesy U. S. Signal Corps).
