The World War II Photo of the Week for 11 February 2002

Shipboard Mealtime ... A shot of several American Red Cross (ARC) girls and GIs feasting on delicious C-rations (on the No. 1 forward hatch of the Liberty Ship EDWARD W. SCRIPPS as they were waiting for the ship's cranes to finish loading the Rhino barge with their equipment.) Note the GI's "baldy" haircuts. Along with the ARC girls, they'll be on French soil not too long after finishing their meal. The location is somewhere off the Normandy coast. Photo dated July 22, 1944, from the Webmaster's collection.
