The World War II Photo of the Week for 16 April 2001

Armorers at Work ... Armorers at a Pacific airfield work by lamplight in the predawn hours before an attack, mounting rockets to the wings of a Corsair. Some of the great details in this shot include the machine gun in the Corsair's wing, the homemade wheel chocks, and just the general sense of the aircraft's size. Note the open access door on top of the wing that allows the men to load ammo for the wing-mounted guns. Official U. S. Navy photo, from the Webmaster's collection.
