The World War II Photo of the Week for 7 May 2001

One-Prop Landing ... A skillful pilot (later lost in action) guides his crippled B-26 Marauder in for a landing at a 9th Air Force bomber station in England. Look closely and you'll see that the plane is coming in with the aft engine out and the prop feathered. During a raid over a Nazi target in France, flak damaged the engine and the pilot had to return to base on half-power, a distance of nearly 100 miles. Official 9th USAAF photo, from the Webmaster's collection.
