Coed Bathing, 1945 Style ...

Several U.S. Army 101st Airborne paratroopers gawk at a German blonde in a daring two-piece bathing suit on her way to the bath-house the women shared with the 101st in Königsee, Germany (the rest area for the airborne troops stationed in the Obersalzberg area during the early days of the occupation immediately following the end of the war; the photo is dated 18 June 1945). Both the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions were in the area in case they had to deal with any German guerilla resistance in the so-called "National Redoubt" the Nazis allegedly were preparing in Southern Bavaria). Perhaps the only resistance from the Germans they saw that Summer was from young Frauleins who may have rebuffed their romantic overtures. Photo from the Webmaster's collection.
