The World War II Photo of the Week for 6 November 2000 Feeding the Volk ...    A throng of German civilians, mostly women, left behind near Mannheim when German troops retreated, are fed under the supervision of American soldiers of the First Army on March 1, 1945. Several U.S. officers are in the foreground, a weapons carrier is parked next to the building in the left background, and a Sherman tank appears in the right background. Six days later, the Americans would be across the Rhine at Remagen. From the Webmaster's collection.
