GI BAR (39 K)

A Little Taste of Home

Some enterprising GIs somewhere in the ETO redecorated this former German bar to remind them of home, which must have been somewhere in the American West judging by the motif they chose: a sextet of comely Texas cowgirls straddling the six beer kegs built into the wall. A mural depicting a Western boomtown crowns this scene from an unidentified unit and billet. Bars such as these were not uncommon in German barracks overrun and occupied by American troops in 1944-45, and they were usually decorated with similar images whether in German or Allied hands. From the Webmaster's collection.
