station complement
The Post Engineer supervises the maintenance of the considerable network of roads, drainage, repairs and prevention. The Post Engineer is the "real estate agent" for the Camp Commander and provides shelter in the form of barracks, administrative and technical service buildings. A completely modern fire department, with 12 engines and equipment, is under his direction. Under the direction of the Post Engineer, in addition to troops assigned to his command, are nearly a thousand civilian employees, including carpenters, electricians, steam fitters, roadway, and maintenance equipment operators. In conjunction with the Medical Inspector's Office, the Post Engineer also carries on a continuous mosquito and malaria control program, both on the post and in contiguous territory.
Numerous other utilities such as an extensive ice plant, two cold storage plants, and a large sewage treatment plant, are among the adjuncts of this military city supervised by the Post Engineers.
Hospitalization for several thousand men is constantly available in the large and well equipped Station Hospital which is under the jurisdiction of the Medical Corps. The Medical Corps, through a system of dispensaries throughout the camp, sifts out the cases warranting attention as well as cases of injury through accident. Every scientific adjunct is available at the Station Hospital, staffed by commissioned officers of the Army Medical and Army Medical Administrative Corps and of the famed Army Nurse Corps.

Consideration of this resume of the scope and functions of the Station Complement should lead the reader to the conclusion the battle line begins in the training camp and to the "housekeeping" troops should go a large measure of credit for the glorious exploits of American soldiers all over the world in this great World War II.
