ActivitiesLife in an Army camp must be balanced in the manner of a fine timepiece. Work and play and relaxation these are cogs which must be carefully synchronized. The two Service Clubs are focal points of social activities at Camp Davis. Each includes a spacious lounge, dance floor, cafeteria, and library. For those who enjoy movies, the camp has five theatres. USOCamp Shows presents numerous stage reviews. Recreational convoys for special events in nearby communities such as Wilmington, Jacksonville, New Bern, and Kinston are sometimes arranged by unit commanders. The camp athletic department, in Farnsworth Hall, all-purpose sports arena, has organized a diversified sports program. The "Fighting AA's" of Camp Davis have established enviable records against outside competition.In the educational field, free night school courses are popular with the men. The camp also has art classes. Followers of dramatics and music may participate in Service Club programs. Praiseworthy is the Red Cross recreation program in the Station Hospital. The Red Cross Building there is complete with auditorium, library, and game facilities for convalescents. |
