Some of the 3,000 American troops who will help repair London
bomb damage begin clearing wreckage prior to erecting 38 Nissen
huts in Loughborough Road, South London. The soldiers, drawn from
the Corps of Engineers and other specialized branches, worked in
several boroughs of the city. Paid, transported, and fed by the U.S.
Army, the men are supervised by the British Ministry of Works.
