A ground crew extinguishes the fire aboard a B-17 crash-landed
alone by 2nd Lt. Jack W. Watson of Indianapolis, Indiana on its
return from a massive raid by U.S. bombers against German
airplane factories on Jan. 11, 1944. Lt. Watson had ordered
the rest of the crew to bail out before landing. This particular
plane's target was the Focke-Wulf factory at Oschersleben.
