An intrepid photographer captured this bird's-eye view of the
island of Kiska, Alaska, occupied by the Japanese on June 4,
1942. This shot of the snow-covered island is from the open bomb
bay of a USAAF bomber, looking past the tail fins of a 1,000-pound
bomb destined for the Japanese troops entrenched on the island,
part of the Aleutian chain. Photo dated April 19, 1943, via
the U.S. Army Alaska Defense Command.
