 | Lt. Archie Dickson, of Arlington, Mississippi, is transported to an aid station somewhere in Normandy, June 12, 1944. Dickson was a glider pilot who ferried American troops into France on June 6, five hours before the seaborne landings at Omaha and Utah Beaches. Despite his wounds, he's all smiles, knowing the Allies have secured a foothold in Europe. Photo by Associated Press wartime photo pool photographer Peter Carroll, from the Webmaster's collection.
