Shown at Bolling Field near Washington, DC, after completing a
world-record 24,700-mile circumnavigation of the globe, is a
Consolidated B-24 Liberator heavy bomber. The plane (tail number
71) is shown on October 31, 1941, following completion of the
epic flight. The aircraft ferried members of the American Supply
Mission across the Atlantic Ocean to Archangel, Russia, and then
to Singapore, across the Pacific and the Continental U.S., and back
to Bolling. Acme Newsphoto, from the Webmaster's collection.
