SUBMARINE S-17

On a frozen Connecticut River near New London in January 1943,
crew-members of the U.S. submarine S-17 chip ice from the deck.
The WW I–vintage vessel saw limited duty in the New England area
during WW II, providing a training platform and a patrol presence
from Long Island Sound to Casco Bay, Maine. More on the history of
the S-17 is available here. Photo from the Webmaster's collection.
