The Royal Marines Boom Patrol Detachment, a misleading title that
hid the true identity of the Special Boat Section, or "Cockleshell
Heroes" as they became popularly known, is shown training off
Southsea. In November 1942, twelve SBS men embarked on the
submarine Tuna to carry out a raid on German shipping 70 miles
up the Gironde river at Bordeaux, where they sank four
large merchant ships with limpet mines.
