The Juneau is Commissioned
Acme News photo, dated February 14, 1942

The cruiser USS Juneau (CL-52) pictured at her commissioning at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Nine months later, she was lost with nearly all hands after being torpedoed by the Japanese submarine I-26, which broke her in two. She sank in 20 seconds, so fast only 10 sailors survived. Among the casualties were the five Sullivan Brothers. There is a good chance one or more of them may be in this photo. She received four battle stars for her WW II service.
