| The French Have Landed |
Acme News photo, dated December 7, 1943
|
French soldiers watch a tank debark from a U.S. amphibious landing ship (an LST, or Landing Ship, Tank) in preparation for the invasion of Italy. Note the USS LST-394 painted on the hull in subdued colors at left. The LST-394 was awarded two battle stars, for the invasions of Italy and Southern France. The tank appears to be an American M5 Stuart light tank loaned to the French.
