|A British ammunition lorry explodes violently after being hit by German mortar fire in a field east of Tilly, Normandy, France. British and German troops were engaged in heavy fighting in the Tilly area in June/July 1944, prior to the Allied breakout from the invasion area. Flying debris from the truck can be seen in the upper right. The original caption states that the other mechanized equipment nearby was only lightly damaged. The white splotches on the rear of the two vehicles in the foreground are censor's markings made to hide the unit markings painted on the bumpers.
