A Cold Night in Tunisia

International News photo (Chicago), dated February 26, 1943

General Dwight D. Eisenhower, Commander-in-Chief of Allied Operations in North Africa, smiles while being photographed during a tour of the battle front in Tunisia. The general is bundled up in a knit cap and warm clothing to protect him from the surprising chill of the North African winter. At one point on his tour, a spot just visited by Ike was overrun by Germans a few hours after he left it, only to be recaptured the following day.
