Boating on Dry Land

ACME Press Wirephoto, via U.S. Army Signal Corps, dated February 22, 1945

A squad of GIs practice for a river assault — on dry land! The patches on their uniforms have been censored, but they appear to be members of an armored unit (perhaps the U.S. 5th Armored Division, who crossed the Roer River on February 25, 1945, spearheading the XIII Corps drive to the Rhine, and then the Rhine at Wesel on March 30, 1945.). The parent unit is given as the U.S. 1st Army. The location is given as somewhere in Belgium.
