Troops of the 11th Airborne Division crowd the airstrip on the Japanese island of Okinawa, awaiting the signal for takeoff to Japan. A few hours later (Aug. 29, 1945, a few weeks after the end of WW II in the Pacific), these men landed at Atsugi airfield, Toyko, as part of the airborne spearhead of the American occupation forces.
