|A pair of American GIs on occupation duty somewhere in Germany relax after V-E Day. This photo captures the essence of fraternization with German girls, or frauleins. While his buddy suns himself in a chair, reading, the other GI has his hands full with a lovely young Teutonic maiden in a two-piece swimsuit (or perhaps her "scanties"). Even though such activity was frowned on and forbidden by commanders, the young men of the U.S. Army openly flaunted their pursuit of local females after surviving the brutal European campaigns of 1944-45. To the victors, it could be said, went the spoils.
