Two American Red Cross girls take a break at an unidentified English air base prior to departing for the Continent following D-Day. Beginning in July 1944, ten groups of 32 Red Cross girls each, along with eight clubmobiles (for serving coffee and doughnuts) per group, a cinemobile (for showing movies), three supply trucks, trailers, and three British Hillman trucks, were sent to France to be attached to various U.S. Army Corps.
