U.S. combat engineers pass a smashed German turret top emplacement as they advance across a beach near St. Raphael in southern France. Before being knocked out by Allied assault troops, the turret was able to cover approaches on a 90 degree angle. It had been fitted with an MG34 machine gun as well as a 20-mm gun.
