Carrier Gets A Kill
ACME News photograph, dated January 18, 1944

The flight deck of an unidentified U.S. Navy aircraft carrier is crowded with crew members and a number of Douglas Dauntless SBD-5 dive bombers just after the carrier's antiaircraft guns downed a Japanese fighter. The smoke rising in the background is from the downed plane. The original caption indicates that the Japanese lost 64 aircraft in the attacks on this particular carrier group.
