This photo shows exactly why U.S. WW II military gear is as scarce and hard to find as it is today. A soldier was required to turn in all of his equipment prior to discharge, except for one set of khakis and one set
of ODs. Note the sign above the acceptance clerk, with its extremely detailed rules about turning in gear.
