ACME News photo, dated July 7, 1942
|
A pair of dummy decoys designed to spoof enemy aircraft on display at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. A corps artillery 155-mm gun made of telephone wire spools and a telephone pole is in the foreground, with a realistic looking P-40 Warhawk, complete with camouflage paint, behind it. This "bomber bait" was built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers detachment at Belvoir.
