| Getting Back in the Action |
Official Acme News photo, dated February 18, 1943
|
The captured Vichy French battleship Richelieu is shown in New York City's East River before being overhauled at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and declared ready for return to action. Note the French sailors turned out on the rails, rendering honors as twelve tug boats escort the huge battleship into her refitting berth. Note the missing No. 5 gun in Turret No. 2, lost in an explosion in September 1942. The refit was completed in August 1943, and she was incorporated into the British Home Fleet in November.
