The World War II Photo of the Week for 10 January 2005

Entertainment Officer ... This undated photo shows a stateside entertainment officer making up a sign at Barksdale Field in Shreveport, Louisiana. Clearly visible on the placard he's inking is "335th Bomb Bay", a reference, perhaps, to a club for the men of the 335th Bomb Group, flying B-26 Marauders, stationed at Barksdale in Spring 1944 (and sent to North Africa in April '44). Signs from earlier shows, including USO Camp Shows, decorate the walls above his desk; notable are signs for appearances by Tiny Bradshaw and his Orchestra, the Andrews Sisters, and Joe Louis.
