Fighting Fallschirmjäger ... A German Luftwaffe paratrooper commando assault team is shown in combat in Holland with an airborne artillery piece. Note all of the weapons these airborne troops are carrying, including MP-40 submachine guns (note the magazine holders on several of the troops) and a panzerfaust antitank weapon (lower left). They are are wearing woodland-pattern mottled camouflage jump smocks. These paratroopers are being used as assault troops, resisting the advance of the Allies during Operation Market-Garden. The photograph is an official German Propaganda Company photo and is dated October 11, 1944. |
