The World War II Photo of the Week for 27 January 2003

After the Storm ... Ships of many classes lie beached and grounded after a violent storm struck the "artificial harbor" installation off of Omaha Beach, Normandy on June 19-22, 1944. The view is from the bluffs just above Colleville. The line of sunken blockships at the top of the photo is the protective breakwater (code-named the "Gooseberry") for the harbor (code-named the "Mulberry").
