The World War II Photo of the Week for 9 February 2004

Along the GC70 ... A group of GIs are shown on roadway GC70 at its intersection with Highway N13 in Normandy, perhaps at the Les Forges crossroads. The photo was probably taken in the Summer or Fall of 1944. N13, aka Route Nationale 13, was the main road from Caen to Cherbourg, and passed through key towns on the Cotentin Peninsula, such as Carentan and St. Mere Eglise. North is to the left in the photo; south, to the right. (This photo was sent to Skylighters anonymously. Anyone with information on the photo is encouraged to contact the Webmaster.)
