The World War II Photo of the Week for 15 March 2004

Fixing A Hole ... A Navy repair crew is hard at work fixing a hole in the deck of their ship made by a Japanese bomb. Note the dozens of holes in the superstructure behind the man leaning over the hole caused by shrapnel. The photo is dated February 17, 1942, and the area of operations is given as the Gilbert and Marshall Islands, near Taroa Island (Maloelap Atoll).
