The World War II Photo of the Week for 25 March 2002

Liberated at Last ... PFC Patsy Fiorenza of Syracuse, NY gives a cigarette to Pvt. Arthur Mullins, Charleston WV, who escaped a Nazi POW camp after being captured on D-Day, June 6, 1944, after parachuting into France as part of the invasion. The photo was taken on July 21, 1944. Note that Mullins has a package of German ANSAWUNDER tobacco he "acquired" during his escape after six weeks as a prisoner. Bet he's glad to get rid of the notoriously poor-quality German tobacco and taste a real American cigarette again! From the Webmaster's collection.
