The World War II Photo of the Week for 24 May 2004 Flooding the Beaches ...    Bulging with reinforcements for the liberation of France, waves of U.S. Coast Guard landing barges are used daily to take the invading forces to the beach. Note the larger vehicle barge in the background, carrying seven ambulance vehicles, marked by the red cross.
