On the Road to Arnhem ...
   A British 17-pounder gun is emplaced on one of the approaches to the bridge over the Waal River at Nijmegen, Holland. This ACME Press photo is dated October 1, 1944, a few days after the failure of Operation Market-Garden to win a bridgehead over the Lower Rhine at Arnhem, just north of Nijmegen.
