Post-War Advances ...

It's March 26, 1945, the war is coming to an end in Europe, and Frances "The Shape" Vorne, picked by the Associated Press as Pin-Up-Girl-of-the-Year, models the post-war playsuit and the post-war fluorescent electric-light "bulb." Designed by engineers of Sylvania Electric Products, Inc., the tubular bulb is eight feet long, only an inch in diameter, and several times more efficient than present round incandescent lamps. According to the original caption, "this new lighting can be built right into postwar homes, trains, planes, and buildings." Photo dated March 26, 1945, Sylvania, via Smithsonian Science Service.
