The World War II Photo of the Week for 21 June 2004 Portable Pier ...    Supplies unloaded in the Mulberry artificial harbor at Omaha Beach (in the background) entered France by truck for months over "Loebnitz" floating piers like this one. The piers led from the outlying harbor to the beach itself. Photo dated June 12, 1944.
