The World War II Photo of the Week for 4 August 2003

Lived to Fight Another Day ... Staff Sgt. Marcel Bollag of New York City reads a Nazi newspaper after escaping from German imprisonment. Bollag parachuted into France on D-Day, was captured by the Germans, and escaped from occupied territory and made his way back to Allied lines. The soldiers around him are laughing at the newspaper's claim that the Germans have killed over two million people during their V-1 buzz-bomb attacks on England. U.S. Signal Corps photo, dated July 20, 1944. |
