Parking Lot Full ...

The "heart" of the British 6th Airborne Division landing zone on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The view is toward the southwest, with the town of Ranville just off the top left. The Orne River runs from left to right across the top of the picture. Indeed, we're dead center in the LZ. Look at all those gliders! The cross at the top center marks the village of Longueville and the curving road to its right leads directly to the Orne River Bridge, and 500 yards further west the famous Pegasus Bridge across the Caen Canal. From the Larry Nelson Photo Collection.
