The World War II Photo of the Week for 27 September 2004

Chose Fighting Over A Furlough ... A GI poses with his Chinese National Army pal. Note the very rare name patch over the breast pocket of the GI, who carries an M-1 carbine and wears a six-gun on his hip. The Chinese soldier has the China star on his helmet and carries a Thompson submachine gun. The original caption indicates that the GI turned down a furlough to stay in Assam to continue to fight the Japanese with the Chinese. ACME News photo dated February 28, 1944.
