Dropzone Secured! ...

This ACME Newspictures Press Photograph (via the Royal Australian Air Force, dated July 14, 1944) shows the height of the U.S. airborne assault on the island of Noemfoor off of Dutch New Guinea. It shows paratroopers of the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team exiting from C-47s and floating to the ground under deployed canopies. Troops from the previous shore landing have already secured the landing zone. More on the exploits of the 503rd on Noemfoor can be found at The Drop Zone Virtual Museum.
